Carl Junction Literary & Visual Arts Contest
HOW IT ALL BEGAN...
The Carl Junction Literary and Visual Arts Contest is an important opportunity for area students and community members to be recognized for their creative talents and to further the importance of the arts in our area communities.
The Carl Junction Literary and Visual Arts Contest is the brainchild of Carl Junction High School English Language Arts and Reading Teacher, Sharolette Pendergrass; High School Art Teacher, Jessica Sellers; in collaboration with Junior High Art Teacher, Elizabeth Cosby.
The founding teachers partnered with the Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce and the
Carl Junction Cultural Arts Committee, an art focused organization, to bring the contest to
surrounding local communities. The purpose of the contest is to build community ties and
identify and showcase teenagers and adults with exceptional artistic and literary talent.
The contest is open to residents of Carl Junction and surrounding areas.
The remarkable winning works are presented at an awards celebration and published in
the "Carl Junction Literary & Visual Arts" magazine. All entrants, families, and general
public are invited to the celebration to be held at the Jerry B. Stark Performing Arts
Center in March.
